Evening Lecture – Electricity Scarcity in the Belgian Nuclear Power Market
January 28, 2015 @ 18:30 - 21:00

The question has been on the media and on our minds for a while: will there be a black-out this winter? Or even worse, will we have to use candlelight?
The current situation with nuclear power plants potentially exposes Belgium to electricity shortage. But these nuclear outages are not the only cause…
Starting with a pure description of the market structure, Pierre-Henri will then explain the structural origin and consequences of electricity scarcity in Belgium. The difference between load shedding and black-out will also be highlighted.
The second part of the presentation will focus on capacity remuneration schemes and their roles in meeting the crucial need for flexibility within the European power market.
