Delivering the UK Nuclear Roadmap – Balancing Lifetime Extension and New Build

This presentation will share the UK experience towards delivering the UK Government 2050 Roadmap for increasing the nuclear capacity to 24GWe.  The presentation will highlight the challenges and progress made towards this target of quadrupling the current capacity. The vision requires strong, credible and strategic collaboration between government policy, investment decisions, reactor development and vendor innovation, technical and engineering expertise, supply chain expansion and regulatory compliance. The UK roadmap sets a balance between the deployment of new large scale GWe projects and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) / Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) – underpinned by sensible and secure lifetime extension of existing reactor units to maintain reliable low carbon generation to bridge the gap.  The presentation will share the UK experience and provide insights for Belgium as they enter their own nuclear revival
